Studies in Literature ETS 4U
We engage in a variety of activities, learning independently, as a whole group, and collaborating in small group settings.
Students, as individuals and as a member of a group of learners, will explore and implement different learning styles throughout each of our courses.
Students have opportunities to make choices in their learning, from choosing a novel from a selection provided,
to bringing in different mediums that are of personal interest,
and also in the ways in which they communicate and share their learning.
Eg. a choice board for grade 9 docs.google.com/document/d/17Oja_ArtQn_5ybg-v6qFeYxl3nPGyUZDatOhsCXS7ak/edit?usp=sharing
Each course is informed by Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Indigenous Education practices as reflected, for example, in choices students have in novel options, media productions, and topics for discussion and written responses. We engage in ongoing discussion, reflection, and practice to ensure that our students are represented in all of our courses, in all of our classrooms.
Essential for this is student voice, and we actively encourage students to, for example, suggest texts, to review novels that could be included in our courses.
We use technology in a purposeful way in our classrooms, for example through 'D2L' an online learning platform (brightspace at scdsb.elearningontario.ca ).
Learning goals, resources and handouts, readings, and assignments are posted to each teacher's online learning platform. Students have access to google drive and GAFE (google applications for education) through their
scdsb username and password.
Assessments are balanced and are purposeful
They range from writing fiction and poetry, essays and news reports, creating media items, oral presentations, and collaborative and independent projects.
